The Revolutionary Capsule with the Green Ring

eco leaf

The Dingo Republic biodegradable and compostable coffee pods are the compatible Nespresso pods that everyone is talking about.

Our capsules are certified bio-based, industrially compostable, oxygen-tight, CO₂-neutral and thus all-around sustainable coffee capsules for Nespresso machines.

To comply with the even more stringent Commercial Composting Australian Standard AS 4736–2006, the capsules and lids are verified by the Australasian Bioplastics Association and are endorsed with the ABA Seedling Composting logo.

Dingo Republic capsules are made from plant-based material and contain no aluminium or petroleum-based plastics. The vegan, GMO- and gluten-free capsules are made from a specially developed bio-plastic and have an exceptionally high oxygen barrier that protects coffee for a long time. The capsules and the lid disintegrate fully within 180 days in industrial composting.

The current way we are living is not sustainable. We are extracting resources at a tremendous rate, using them up, and chucking them away mindlessly. This open-loop model is putting our planet under immense strain, and is in need of a serious rethink.

Most coffee capsules used are made either out of aluminium or petroleum-based plastics, but our Bio-Pods are made from completely renewable plant-based resources. Aluminium not only leaves a nasty toxic trail after disposal, but is also non-renewable, and requires lots of energy and chemicals to produce. Petroleum-based plastic capsules use an aluminium lid and are not biodegradable as microorganisms cannot digest these materials.

The extensive research and development has led to the development of the Dingo Republic biodegradable coffee capsule that delivers the taste without the damaging environmental impacts that plastic or aluminium capsules have.

Every element of the packaging has been designed to minimise its impact on the environment. The pods are hermetically sealed with a built in a plant-based and compostable oxygen barrier to keep our coffee fresh for up to 12 months. We don't need any additional overwrap.

How long does it take?

This comparison to other capsules might help show the significance of this:
Climate-neutral: By using renewable raw materials and energy — from wind, sun, hydropower, and biogas — in its production and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions, our capsules attained ClimatePartner certification. The certification affirms both our coffee capsules and enterprise are climate-neutral. The CO2 emissions that have not yet been able to avoid are offset by forest protection projects to preserve the rain forests in Brazil according to the highest standards (CCBS Gold Level). This sends out an important and positive message, especially for the end consumer

Home Composting: There are many factors that can influence the process (like temperature, the time of year, and the location of your bio-bin, just to name a few). Finding the sweet spot where the microbes in your home compost pile can flourish is the key, as home compost heats vary significantly and this impacts the breakdown timing.

The capsule will certainly break down in landfill, so general waste to decompose is no problem in all councils. Green Bins can vary by council in regards to industrial composting facilities so it is best to contact your local council and find out more. The more people enquire, the quicker composting will be offered as part of your rates!

Commercial Composting: The capsules are EN13432 and AS 4736 certified. This means that after 12 weeks in an industrial composter, the capsule will disintegrate and pass through a 2×2mm mesh and after 6 months all that remains is CO2, water and minerals. here.
