Trouble is brewing in the coffee world here is what you need to know about the price rise...
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF FACTORS AT PLAY ...
Coffee shortages & bad weather
Owner Matt Swiatkiwsky said one of the worst frosts in half a century hit Brazil in the middle of last year and created a worldwide shortage - ABC Reports.
Brazil is Australia's largest coffee bean importer, producing 50% less coffee in 2021 and 2022. These shortages are expected to impact the crop for the next three years, so brace yourself for the long hall, this crisis isn't going anywhere.
Fuel prices and freight issues
You'll likely already know about the shipping container shortages causing havoc globally, with the situation only being made worse due to the increase in fuel prices off the back of the devastation in the Ukraine.
"Freight would be the big one for us with the cost of fuel going up," Swiatkiwsky added.

Unemployment and increased wages
A less obvious reason your barista-made coffee could be boiling to new all-time highs is the staff shortages forcing café owners to increase wages. This rides off the back of covid lockdowns, which saw startling numbers of hospitality employees moving out of the industry.
Inflation
It's not just these global shortages causing prices to rise, with inflation gearing up to grow above 3.5% this quarter, it is everything else that goes into the cup.
SO HOW HARD IS THIS GOING TO STING?

While some reports indicate an increase of 30 to 50 cents, others say Australians could expect to see increases up to $1.
Ouch, that burns!
It's safe to say this is larger than just one issue and unfortunately, it looks like the issue is going to stick around, but do we think this is going to effect Aussies love for their morning brew?
Despite a certain sting, it is certainly a part of Australian culture and we cannot imagine coffee is going anywhere.

The first irrefutable proof that caffeine enhances memory and can enhance memory as long as 24 hours after consumption was published in the Jan. 12, 2014, edition of the journal Nature Neuroscience by a team of scientists led by Michael Yassa, assistant professor of psychological and brain sciences in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University.
The research is considered exclusive proof that caffeine improves long-term memory because all participants in the study received a 200 milligram pill of caffeine after they had seen a series of photographs. This change in experimental design eliminated the potential that the memory effect was due to increased effect on vigilance, focus, and attention that can be produced by caffeine.
The test participants were selected from people who did not regularly use any kind of caffeinated beverage. The test subjects were divided into two groups. Each individual watched the same series of photographs. One group received a 200 milligram pill of caffeine five minutes after seeing the photographs and the other group received a placebo. Caffeine levels were measured in each participant at one, three, and 24 hour intervals after taking the caffeine.
Both groups of participants watched a second set of photographs that had a few different photos and some very similar photos compared to the set of photographs that the participants viewed 24 hours earlier.
More members of the group that took the caffeine could distinguish the added photos and the similar photos. This behavior implies the involvement of a higher level of memory called pattern separation. The memory enhancement lasts as long as 24 hours after consuming caffeine.
All memory involves the hippocampus. The exact mechanism that caffeine has on memory retention has not yet been elucidated.
The researchers indicate that the fact that 200 milligrams of caffeine has been proven to enhance memory should not be taken as a license to consume extreme amounts of caffeine.

It appears Australia is FINALLY following in the footsteps of other countries when it comes to the ban of one-time use plastic bag.

South Australia, Northern Territory, ACT and Tasmania have already placed bans on the plastic bag. Western Australia, Queensland and Victoria will follow their lead, implementing their own laws in July. However, New South Wales appears to be lagging behind...
Supermarket chains such as Aldi have never allowed plastic bags but it appears the big two are going to follow. Woolworths on June 20th and Coles on July 1st.

It is a monumental moment for Australia as we finally make a move in reducing our overconsumption of plastic. From July onwards Australians will be forced to bring their own reusable bags to the shops with them and we are not upset about it.

When you think of mornings what do you think?
Coffee, smoothies, packing food for the day?

For many of us breakfast = smoothies and smoothies = straws. The amount of unnecessary plastic these, one time use straws cause is RIDICULOUS!!! If you want to use a straw to devour your nourishes, fruity drink try opt in for stainless steel or glass multi-use choices.

What's a morning without coffee? If you're making yours from home make sure you are using biodegradable coffee capsules. Check out the ethical coffee range here (P.s. they are also organic, fair trade and vegan WIN WIN!)

If you're going to a cafe for your takeaway wake me up instead make sure you're bringing a KeepCup. Baristas are all more than happy to replace their one-use cups for a reusable one all you have to do is ask! Buy yours here!

Finally, when it comes to taking your food on the go. Don't simply reach for a plastic zip-lock bag. Not only are these ridiculously expensive but you can now buy reusable options which work just as well and can be used again and again!

If you haven’t already heard disposable coffee cups aren’t as environmentally friendly as most Australians previously thought. Most paper cups contain hidden plastic contents which make them extremely difficult to recycle and are instead ending up in landfills. The ABC also crowned disposable coffee cups as the “second largest contributor to litter in this country, behind plastic bottles”.
In light of these finding we’ve compiled our 3 favourite reusable coffee cups that will help you save the planet, one coffee at a time.
