It appears Australia is FINALLY following in the footsteps of other countries when it comes to the ban of one-time use plastic bag.

South Australia, Northern Territory, ACT and Tasmania have already placed bans on the plastic bag. Western Australia, Queensland and Victoria will follow their lead, implementing their own laws in July. However, New South Wales appears to be lagging behind...
Supermarket chains such as Aldi have never allowed plastic bags but it appears the big two are going to follow. Woolworths on June 20th and Coles on July 1st.

It is a monumental moment for Australia as we finally make a move in reducing our overconsumption of plastic. From July onwards Australians will be forced to bring their own reusable bags to the shops with them and we are not upset about it.

For the majority of the population shopping means going in empty handed coming out with a mound of unnecessary waste (especially plastic)!
Before going on your next food haul keep these handy hacks in mind to reduce your environmental footprint and be an eco-shopper!
1. BRING YOUR OWN BAGS

It seems so obvious, we know, but so many Australians still forget to bring their own shopping bags! Instead, what do they use? Plastic!!!
Our hack! Purchase bags that you can fold up really tight to carry in your everyday bag or leave a stash in your car so you never have an excuse!
2. DON'T PURCHASE PACKAGED FOODS

For some reason supermarkets deem in necessary to package absolutely everything!!! When it comes to fresh produce, opt for small carry bags of your own rather than the plastic tear-off ones they provide and totally avoid anything coated in plastic.
Where possible, buy from organic farmers markets rather than the large chains if you can't find what you want without drowning in waste overload!!!
3. What can I eat?

Typically reducing waste goes hand in hand with healthy living, purely because processed food is typically packaged. However, more and more options are popping up, where you can scoop your own products into your own bags (LOOK OUT FOR THESE).
Where you can, try to find food packed in a material you think you can personally reuse. Preferably search for in glass jars, these are also perfect for future use!

FUN FACT
Going one step future, you will find most of the processed food or over packaged food have ingredients that aren't good for the environment or for yourself.
Plastic leaking onto products can also put unwanted chemicals into your body and increase Oestrogen so not only will you be helping the environment but also yourself!
